He is an adjunct professor with the School of Architecture and Design at RMIT University in Melbourne.
He is a:
- board member of the Green Building Council of Australia
- chair of the Green Building Council of Australia Technical Steering Committee
Carey was elected as national president of the Australian Institute of Architects in 2006 - 2007.
