Dean Boothroyd

Dean was a principal at NH Architecture with over 25 years of industry experience in the master planning and design of large-scale projects which included:

  • the University of Melbourne
  • the Melbourne Arts Centre
  • Melbourne Airport
  • Federation Square East

As a publisher, Dean was the editor of the independently produced architectural journal, 'Backloque'. The journal was awarded the Australian Institute of Architect's Bates Smart Award in 1994 and the Award of Merit in 2000. Dean was also co-editor of 'Mongrel Publication' and the editor of the AIA Victorian Chapter journal 'Architect'.

He has lectured in design at the Melbourne School of Design at the University of Melbourne. He continues to teach at RMIT University, he has instructed the Masters of architecture program since 1994. He has worked with students on design research projects and established a successful industry partnership program pairing students with major Melbourne practices to undertake research through design.

Dean is co-founder of the collaborative research and design vehicle M@STUDIO, which was awarded the National Gallery of Victoria Architecture Commission for 2016.
