Stephen Varady

Stephen has extensive experience and knowledge related to the running of international architectural design competitions.

Stephen is a practicing architect with over 30 years experience. He is director of Stephen Varady Associates, a practice for architecture, design, consulting and special projects.

He is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects and was creative director for the 2006 AIA National Architecture Conference.

Stephen has been a lecturer and design teacher since 1985 and has lectured extensively around the world, including at:

  • Sydney University
  • University of NSW
  • University of Technology Sydney
  • Newcastle University
  • RMIT University

Stephen is also an architecture critic, writer and photographer. He has been published in:

  • Sydney Morning Herald in Australia
  • AD and World Architecture in the UK

Stephen has received numerous AIA Awards and Dulux Colour Awards. His work has been exhibited in Australia and overseas, including the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale. His work has been published in Australia, UK, Germany, Hungary, Spain, South Korea, China and the USA.

He was competition advisor and registrar for:

  • Green Square Aquatic Centre Competition
  • Green Square Library & Plaza Competition
  • Wagga Wagga Civic Centre Competition
